The Icelandic Meteorological Society is open to all with a genuine interest for weather and related disciplines. The purpose of the society is to improve and deepen the knowledge of meteorology and related fields in Iceland. There are no admittance fees.
The society holds on average three national afternoon meetings each year. The meetings are open to all and have become an well attended event where professional meteorologists and weather enthusiasts meet and share their interest in weather.
Lectures on research in meteorology and related fields are given by both professionals and amateurs. The lectures are usually in Icelandic and they are listed in the Icelandic pages of our web, in addition to an English-Icelandic dictionary of weather related terms.

The society actively participates in Nordic cooperation through the bi-annual nordic meteorologist meetings. The Icelandic Meteorological Society is a member of the European Meteorological Society (EMS).
